Esteemed visitor,
For too long, the scam text has been dismissed as “spam,” “garbage,” or “why is this the fourth one today.” No more. Here, under museum lighting and behind a velvet rope, we present the smish as what it truly is: a folk art of extraordinary persistence, produced at industrial scale by artists who remain stubbornly anonymous (and, frankly, wanted).
Each work has been lovingly framed in gold leaf, annotated by our curatorial staff, and assigned a list of ๐ฉ Red Flags, so that you might learn to recognize a masterpiece in the wild — and then not click it.
Admission is free. The scammers have, after all, already charged you $4.20.
— Dr. Reginald P. Smishington III, Director & Chief Docent, D.Phil (Unsolicited)

โ ๏ธ MUSEUM RULES โ ๏ธ
- Do not touch the art.
- Do not click the links in the art. A guard is stationed in every gallery. He is very tired.
- Do not reply “STOP” to the art. Replying only tells the artist your number is real and you are awake.
- If the art follows you home (to your actual phone), forward it to 7726 (that spells SPAM), then delete it.
- No flash photography. The scammers are sensitive to light (and to being reported).
- Do not feed the Toll Troll. He says you owe him $4.20. You do not.
The Elements of Smish
A Docent’s Primer on Form, Technique & Telltale Brushwork
Urgency
The impasto of fear. Thick, layered deadlines: “within 12 hours,” “FINAL NOTICE,” “today.”
Real talk: legit companies don’t threaten you by text with a countdown. Panic is the whole trick.
The Domain
The artist’s signature, scrawled in the corner: something-official.biz.ru.lol.
Real talk: weird, long, or misspelled links are a giveaway. Never tap a link in a text you didn’t expect.
“Dear Customer”
The anonymous sitter. A portrait of no one, addressed to everyone.
Real talk: generic greetings, odd grammar, and random sender numbers or email addresses are red flags.
The Ask
Every masterpiece culminates in a request: a fee, a card number, a login, a “verification code.”
Real talk: never pay, log in, or share codes or personal info from a text. Go to the official app or type the website yourself.
Unsolicited
The work arrives uninvited, like all great art and most raccoons.
Real talk: a package you didn’t order, a toll you didn’t drive, a prize you didn’t enter? That’s the scam.
Too Good / Too Weird
The sublime: a $1000 gift card, a $900/day job liking videos, a stranger who simply must be your friend.
Real talk: if it sounds too good, or a “wrong number” turns into crypto talk, block and move on.
- Don’t tap the link.
- Don’t reply (not even “STOP,” not even “lol nice try”).
- Forward it to 7726 (SPAM) to report it to your carrier.
- Delete it and block the sender.
- Worried it’s real? Check through the official app or website you type in yourself, or call the number on your card or bill.
- Already clicked or paid? No shame — these are made by professionals. Contact your bank right away and change any passwords you entered.
๐๏ธ The Gift Shop ๐๏ธ
Exit through the gift shop. Nothing here is for sale. Nothing here exists. That’s the art.
Prices do not include shipping, handling, the redelivery fee, or the “customs release fee” a stranger will text you about tomorrow.
